Imo riding without proper eye pro is just asking for trouble. I'd look for something with an ANSI Z87+ impact rating a lot of riding glasses from brands like Wiley X have a foam gasket that seals out wind without the bulk of full on goggles. What kind of helmet are you running, a full face or something more open?
Goggles or riding glasses make a huge difference especially for wind, bugs, and especially dust. If you want something comfy, I say check out Birdz Eyewear for budget friendly options. Maybe start with a foam-padded pair and see how it feels on a short ride!
